American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) The American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) is the professional association for the field of marriage and family therapy. The AAMFT hosts an annual national training conference each fall as well as a weeklong series of continuing education institutes in the summer. They offer a variety of brochures and pamphlets that inform the public about the field of marriage and family therapy. They also offer a range of professional and practice development products, including videotapes, books and brochures. American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) AACAP is the leading national professional medical association dedicated to treating and improving the quality of life for children, adolescents, and families affected by mental, behavioral, or developmental disorders. The web site contains information on membership, current research, practice guidelines, managed care information, and awards and fellowship descriptions. Fact sheets for parents and caregivers and a directory of child and adolescent psychiatrists are also available on-line. American Academy of Pediatrics The American Academy of Pediatrics is an organization of 55,000 primary care pediatricians, pediatric medical subspecialists, and pediatric surgical specialists dedicated to the health, safety, and well being of infants, children, adolescents, and young adults. Their web site contains information on their programs, advocacy, membership, and an on-line bookstore of publications. American Counselors Association The American Counseling Association is a non-profit, professional and educational organization that is dedicated to the growth and enhancement of the counseling profession. Information on the association?s resources and books, membership and government relations efforts are available on their web site. Federation of Families for Children?s Mental Health The Federation of Families for Children?s Mental Health is a family-run advocacy organization with a network of local chapters nationwide. Their programs include family leadership training, support and technical assistance and advocacy on children?s mental health policy issues and for systems change. A publications catalog is also available. National Association of School Nurses The National Association of School Nurses is a non-profit specialty nursing organization dedicated to improving the health and educational success of children and youth by developing and providing leadership to advance school nursing practice. Their web site includes a publication list, a directory to state and international chapters, membership information and links to related organizations. National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) The mission of NASP is to promote educationally and psychologically healthy environments for all children and youth by implementing research-based, effective programs that prevent problems, enhance independence, and promote optimal learning. Their web site includes information on publications, membership, programming and advocacy activities. National Information Center for Children and Youth with Disabilities NICHCY is a national information and referral center that provides information on disabilities and disability-related issues for families, educators, and other professionals, with a special focus on children and youth (birth to age 22). Their web site includes information on their publications, state resource sheets, referrals to related organizations, and fact sheets in Spanish. National Mental Health Association/ Children?s Mental Health NMHA?s Prevention and Children?s Mental Health Services Department is actively engaged in public education, advocacy, and coalition building efforts. Their web site includes information on their prevention efforts, the Juvenile Justice Initiative, Voices Vs Violence Campaign and Childhood Depression Awareness Day. Fact sheets and publications on children?s mental health issues are also available. National Technical Assistance Center for Children?s Mental Health The Georgetown University Child Development Center (GUCDC) was established nearly four decades ago to improve the quality of life for all children and youth, especially those with, or at risk for, special needs and their families. Child Development Center faculty also provide an array of community activities including training, technical assistance, consultation, and information dissemination. |
