American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) AACAP is the leading national professional medical association dedicated to treating and improving the quality of life for children, adolescents, and families affected by mental, behavioral, or developmental disorders. The web site contains information on membership, current research, practice guidelines, managed care information, and awards and fellowship descriptions. Fact sheets for parents and caregivers and a directory of child and adolescent psychiatrists are also available. American Academy of Pediatrics The American Academy of Pediatrics is an organization of 55,000 primary care pediatricians, pediatric medical sub-specialists, and pediatric surgical specialists dedicated to the health, safety, and well being of infants, children, adolescents, and young adults. Their web site contains information on their programs, advocacy, membership, and an on-line bookstore of publications. American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry The American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry (AAGP) is dedicated to promoting the mental health and well being of older people and improving the care of those with late-life mental disorders. AAGP enhances the knowledge base and standards of practice in geriatric psychiatry through education and research, and by advocating for the mental health needs of older Americans. Their web site includes information on membership, advocacy and public policy and publications. American Association of Pastoral Counselors The American Association of Pastoral Counselors (AAPC) represents and sets professional standards for Pastoral Counselors and pastoral counseling centers in North American and around the world. AAPC certifies Pastoral Counselors, accredits pastoral counseling centers, and approves training programs. Their web site includes information on membership and an on-line directory of Certified Pastoral Counselors across the United States. American Psychiatric Association The American Psychiatric Association is a medical specialty society of physicians who specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of mental and emotional illnesses and substance use disorders. Several informational fact sheets are available on-line, as well as information on publications, membership, programs and advocacy efforts. American Psychological Association The Campaign is a program of the National Mental Health Association, and carries out screenings and public education through partnerships with 24 national organizations and their affiliates. Their web site includes a help center for mental health related concerns, fact sheets, advocacy news, publication listings and referrals to psychologists and other organizations. Asian American Psychological Association The Asian American Psychological Association (AAPA) is national organization for psychologists whose mission is to: advance the welfare of Asian Americans by encouraging, assisting, and advocating research on and service to Asian Americans; provide a network and forum for Asian American psychologists and psychological professionals who work with Asian Americans and who are interested in improving mental health services to Asian Americans; conduct meetings, issue publications and other educational materials, and inform others of socio-psychological issues facing Asian Americans; and, perform other activities to further the advancement of Asian Americans in today's society. Association of Black Psychologists The Association of Black Psychologists address the needs of Black professionals and work to have a positive impact upon the mental health of the national Black community by means of planning, programs, services, training, and advocacy. Their objectives are to organize their skills and abilities to influence necessary change, and to address themselves to significant social problems affecting the Black community and other segments of the population whose needs society has not fulfilled. Their web site includes information on research publications, assessment techniques and other products, their advocacy work to influence public policy, and Student Circle, a student run section of the association. National Association of Social Workers The National Association of Social Workers (NASW) is a membership organization of professional social workers that works to enhance the professional growth and development of its members, to create and maintain professional standards, and to advance sound social policies. Their web site includes information on membership, publications, educational programs, advocacy efforts, and a chapter directory.
