American Managed Behavioral Healthcare Association The American Managed Behavioral Healthcare Association (AMBHA) is a non-profit trade association representing the nation?s leading managed behavioral healthcare organizations. The Association?s primary objectives are to: promote accountability of health plans; manage behavioral healthcare organizations and providers through performance measurement; promote nondiscriminatory coverage of mental illness and substance use disorders in health benefits; and, support meaningful consumer rights and protections. National Association of State Alcohol and Drug Abuse Directors The National Association of State Alcohol and Drug Abuse Directors, Inc. (NASADAD) is a private, non-profit educational, scientific, and informational organization. NASADAD's basic purpose is to foster and support the development of effective alcohol and other drug abuse prevention and treatment programs throughout every State. Information on research and program applications, publications, and public policy are available on their web site. National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors The National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors (NASMHPD) organizes to reflect and advocate for the collective interests of State Mental Health Authorities and their directors at the national level. The association identifies public mental health policy issues, apprises its members of research findings and best practices in the delivery of mental health services, fosters collaboration, provides consultation and technical assistance, and promotes effective management practices and financing mechanisms adequate to sustain its mission. Their web site includes information on government relations efforts, programs, membership, and a directory. National Clearinghouse for Drug and Alcohol Information The National Clearinghouse for Alcohol and Drug Information (NCADI) is the information service of the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration in the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. NCADI services include: an information services staff (English, Spanish, TDD capability) equipped to respond to the public's alcohol, tobacco, and drug inquiries; the distribution of free or low-cost ATD materials, including fact sheets, brochures, monographs, posters, and video tapes; a repertoire of culturally-diverse prevention, intervention, and treatment resources tailored for use by parents, teachers, youth, communities and prevention/treatment professionals; access to the Prevention Materials database including over 8,000 prevention-related materials and the Treatment Resources Database, available to the public in electronic form. National Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare The mission of the National Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare is to champion opportunities that advance members' ability to deliver proactive and holistic healthcare services and is dependent on individual members actualizing this mission through learning and the sharing of knowledge. They provide information, educational resources, training, consulting, and other forms of technical assistance which are included on their web site. National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NCADD) NCADD is a voluntary health organization with a nationwide network of affiliates. Their affiliates provide objective information and referral for individuals, families and others seeking intervention and treatment, community prevention and education programs, presentations to raise community awareness at schools, businesses and community organizations, and advocacy for alcoholics and other drug dependent persons and their families in local and state governments. Their web site includes information on affiliates, research, fact sheets, treatment programs and advocacy. National Mental Health Association/State Healthcare Reform The National Mental Health Association is dedicated to promoting mental health, preventing mental disorders and achieving victory over mental illnesses through advocacy, education, research and service. Their web site includes legislative information for state and federal governments, advocacy alerts, publications, and position statements. National Technical Assistance Center for State Mental Health Planning NTAC provides on-site technical assistance to individual states and regions on all issues of importance to mental health planning, service delivery, and evaluation. NTAC's web site includes news and information about its technical assistance and training activities, posts information about its meeting materials, research and publications, and offers key players in the mental health community the opportunity to share ideas and experiences around state mental health planning. SAMHSA- Office of Applied Studies The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration is the Federal agency charged with improving the quality and availability of prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation services in order to reduce illness, death, disability, and cost to society resulting from substance abuse and mental illnesses. The Office of Applied Studies is the focal point for the agency's activities in gathering, analyzing, and disseminating substance-abuse data. Statistics, research and publications are available on their web site. The National Gains Center for People with Co-Occurring Disorders The National GAINS Center for People with Co-Occurring Disorders in the Criminal Justice System is a national locus for the collection and dissemination of information about effective mental health and substance abuse services for people with co-occurring disorders who come in contact with the justice system. The GAINS Center provides technical assistance through the use of national and local experts, responds to information requests, and offers a variety of publications and technical assistance documents.
