The National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors (NASMHPD) organizes to reflect and advocate for the collective interests of State Mental Health Authorities and their directors at the national level. The National Clearinghouse for Alcohol and Drug Information (NCADI) is the information service of the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration in the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. NCADI services include: an information services staff (English, Spanish, TDD capability) equipped to respond to the public's alcohol, tobacco, and drug inquiries; the distribution of free or low-cost ATD materials, including fact sheets, brochures, monographs, posters, and video tapes; a repertoire of culturally-diverse prevention, intervention, and treatment resources tailored for use by parents, teachers, youth, communities and prevention/treatment professionals; access to the Prevention Materials database including over 8,000 prevention-related materials and the Treatment Resources Database, available to the public in electronic form.

NCADD is a voluntary health organization with a nationwide network of affiliates. NTAC provides on-site technical assistance to individual states and regions on all issues of importance to mental health planning, service delivery, and evaluation. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration is the Federal agency charged with improving the quality and availability of prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation services in order to reduce illness, death, disability, and cost to society resulting from substance abuse and mental illnesses. The Office of Applied Studies is the focal point for the agency's activities in gathering, analyzing, and disseminating substance-abuse data. The National GAINS Center for People with Co-Occurring Disorders in the Criminal Justice System is a national locus for the collection and dissemination of information about effective mental health and substance abuse services for people with co-occurring disorders who come in contact with the justice system. The GAINS Center provides technical assistance through the use of national and local experts, responds to information requests, and offers a variety of publications and technical assistance documents.
