Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) and Contact Information
Check here for answer to your questions about mental health and this site.
Q. What's the best way to get information on a mental disorder that a friend or relative has?
A. There are several ways to do this. You can search this site from this page (above), or use Mental Health Search to find material on the Net and in medical journals. You might also want to view all past features to see what's available in the original articles on this site. You can check the Library of Resources to the best material on this and other sites.Posting to the Forum is more likely to be helpful than sending an email. By posting to the Forum you are allowing hundreds of people who converse there to be of assistance. You can do so without revealing your identity.
Q. How can I find information for a paper that I have to write for a class?
A. While this is similar to what I've outlined above, you may want to focus on the more academic resources. Check the Online Journals for information and do a MEDLINE search on Mental Health Search page. The Academic Psychology resources and the Psychopharmacology resources are a few of the selections in the Library of Resources that you may find helpful here.
Q. How can I add my site here?
A. You can add your private practice or any local or regional resource directly by going to the Forum. Your commercial site will immediately appear on every page of the Mental Health Resources site if you purchase a Sprinks ad. These text ads only cost you when people actually click-through to your site. If your site is of national or international interest then send me an email. I'll add it if I believe that it meets our standards for inclusion (but that will probably take time). I won't add your site if it is primarily an advertisement for a book or product. I'm looking for mental health resources that have helpful original content.
Q. How can I get a personal answer to a question?
A. The best way to ask a question is to post to the Forum. You will get a range of answers from mental health professionals and others. You may also want to consider consulting one of the mental health "experts" at AllExperts.com. Be sure to read the background information on the person that you are consulting.
Q. How can I list my commercial product or service on your site?
A. About.com allows you to advertise directly to your target audience. Sprinks automates the process and is very inexpensive. Go to the Be an Advertiser page for more information on banner ads. You can also post your product or service for free on the Forum.
Post to the Forum
Like all the Guides at About.com., I'm a real person. I check the Forum regularly. Post your questions or comments and you'll get input from a variety of voices.
Email Your Guide
You can email me at mentalhealth.guide@about.com. This is one way to request that I add a site. I cannot give personal advice by email. It's even reaching the point where I may not be able to answer every email, and there may be a delay if I do answer. I often have a backlog of Websites to review. I am a full-time psychologist in the real world. I never answer email during normal work hours.
