Association for Persons in Supported Employment The Association for Persons in Supported Employment is a membership organization formed to improve and expand integrated employment opportunities, services, and outcomes for persons experiencing disabilities. APSE provides advocacy and education to customers of supported employment; addresses issues and policy barriers which impede the implementation of integrated employment services; improves supported employment practice; and, educates the public and the business community on the value of including persons experiencing severe disabilities as fully participating community members. Their web site includes information on their products, chapters, and membership. Center for Psychiatric Rehabilitation The Center for Psychiatric Rehabilitation is a research, training, and service organization dedicated to improving the lives of people who have psychiatric disabilities. The mission of the Center is to increase knowledge in the field of psychiatric rehabilitation and to apply this body of knowledge to train treatment personnel, to develop effective rehabilitation programs, and to assist in organizing both personnel and programs into efficient and coordinated service delivery systems. Detailed information on the Center?s programs, the Recovery Center, Individual Services in Rehabilitation and Training for the Future is available on their web site. CONTACT USA CONTACT USA is a network of crisis intervention and telephone helpline centers across the nation. CONTACT's programs include Helpline (crisis intervention, listening, information and referrals), Teen Line (teens helping teens), KidsLine (a helpline especially for latch-key children), DEAF CONTACT (a message relay for hearing impaired), Reassurance CONTACT (a program for the elderly and homebound), CONTACT Rape Crisis (emergency and after-care service for victims) and Information & Referral (linking callers to community services). International Association of Psycho-Social Rehabilitation Services IAPSRS is dedicated to promoting, supporting, and strengthening community-oriented rehabilitation services and resources for persons with psychiatric disability. Their web site has detailed information on memberships, publications and programs. IAPSRS also provides referrals to local treatment programs and residential programs. Job Accommodations Network The Job Accommodation Network (JAN) is an international toll-free consulting service that provides information about job accommodations and the employability of people with functional limitations. The mission of JAN is to assist in the hiring, retraining, retention or advancement of persons with disabilities by providing accommodation information. JAN also has information to help create barrier-free facilities that comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Matrix Research Institute MRI is a non-profit research and training center with over twenty-five years of experience in the evaluation of effective human services programs and the preparation of skilled human services personnel. MRI provides program research, and systems analysis, conducts services demonstration research professional training and human resource development, public education and consultation services across the mental health, mental retardation, aging, substance abuse and physical disability fields. Their web site includes information on social security, publications, training and research. National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI) The mission of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill is to eradicate mental illness and improve the quality of life of those affected by these diseases. NAMI members are dedicated to increasing research into severe mental illness such as schizophrenia and manic-depression. The web site contains information on policy, legal issues, medical information, and a variety of resources for mental health consumers and advocates. National Mental Health Association/ Partners in Community Access to Recovery and Empowerment 1021 Prince Street Partners in C.A.R.E. addresses the treatment needs of individuals with schizophrenia and other serious mental illnesses. Partners in C.A.R.E. helps individuals and organizations in selected communities advocate for the introduction of community-based services. The initiative provides technical assistance and materials to educate political, business, and civic leaders and help communities identify gaps in the existing services for people with serious mental illnesses. Their web site also contains fact sheets on schizophrenia and community-based care. Presidents Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities The President's Committee is a small federal agency whose mission is to communicate, coordinate and promote public and private efforts to enhance the employment of people with disabilities. The Committee provides information, training, and technical assistance to America's business leaders, organized labor, rehabilitation and service providers, advocacy organizations, families and individuals with disabilities. The President's Committee reports to the President on the progress and problems of maximizing employment opportunities for people with disabilities. Rehabilitation Research and Training The Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on aging with Mental Retardation (RRTCAMR) is a national resource for researchers, planners, providers, self-advocates, families and students in the field of aging and mental retardation. The RRTCAMR?s Clearinghouse contains a computer database with over 2,000 reprints, bibliographies, manuals, and monographs on topics addressing issues of aging with developmental disabilities. |
