"Anthony Walker, M.D." is a pseudonym. The author is actually an M.D., but he changed his name in order to save his ex-wife and himself from embarrassment. This was probably a good decision. The author and his ex-wife share some exciting and upsetting times. Writing under a different name allowed him to provide a more explicit picture of life with a borderline.
It's actually a pretty picture at times. Early in the book he writes about "Michelle" in glowing terms, but we already get a sense that things are headed downhill. Why would an intelligent young doctor fall in love with someone like this? He explains:
When I met Michelle, her beauty and her energy had enchanted me, but it was her absolute need to be loved that was most compelling. She was like a flower with some exotic pollen, and I was an intoxicated bee. It was flattering to think that this intriguing woman with such sophisticated tastes and varied life experiences could find me interesting. (p.41)
The author provides some helpful information about Borderline Personality Disorder at the end of the book. This is a nice touch, gently educating us after entertaining us.
Siren's Dance - My Marriage to a Borderline held my interest, but it felt more like an extended short story than a novel. It was well-written and entertaining; and it is an excellent introduction to the complex nature of Borderline Personality Disorder.
