How Prozac Works

Scientists announced yesterday that they are closer to learning how Prozac (and similar antidepressants) grow new brain cells. Researchers were able to study six stages of neuron development. They found that two weeks or more of fluoxetine treatment significantly increased the number of "amplifying neural progenitors." The research may help scientists develop safer and even more effective antidepressants.
