Health Insurance Lobby Blocks Mental Health Parity

House speaker Dennis Hastert has helped the health insurance lobby block legislation to make them provide equal coverage for mental and physical illnesses if their policies include both. The bill had majority support in both Houses, and the support of President Bush.
Hastert blocked the bill by refusing to schedule a vote in the House. The legislation has 69 sponsors in the Senate and 246 sponsors in the House, but it just took one person to keep it from being passed.
