The Statesman, An Online Indian Newpaper, published a good article on mental health myths. Their myths include:
  • A mentally ill person is crazy.
  • “Once a crazy, always a crazy”.
  • Depression results from a personality weakness or character flaw, and the person just needs to snap out of it.
  • Schizophrenia means split personality.
  • The mentally ill are often dangerous and violent.

    I've dealt with many of these myths before, but it is interesting to read them through the eyes of a different culture.
