Schizophrenia is a severe mental disorder - sometimes known as a psychosis - that is usually treated with anti-psychotic medications. It involves a break with reality. Newer atypical antipsychotics such as Risperdal, Seroquel, Abilify, and Zyprexa seem to have fewer side effects than older phenothiazine medications such as Haldol and Thorazine.
