Thursday July 3, 2003
Researchers working with data from the recently published human genome project have announced that they have discovered 19 different genetic regions that appear to be involved in depression. Some of the regions discovered are gender specefic - occurring only in women.
The researchers reported screening 81 families who had members suffering from recurrent, early-onset, major depressive disorder, thought to run in families. More information is in this Reuters Health story: Genome Survey Finds Depression Genes
